Arrowwood Viburnum

 

 

 

The arrowwood viburnum is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub.  It produces white flowers in the spring which give way to fruit that attract various wildlife.  In fall, the arrowwood produces beautiful foliage ranging from yellow to orange and red.  This is a low maintenance shrub used often as a hedge or for screening.  It is tolerant of clay soils and requires full sun to part shade light exposure. The arrowwood viburnum is also very winter hardy.

Arrowwood viburnum is a vigorous grower and often comes pot bound or close to it when you buy it containerized. It still does well when you plant it as long as you break up the root ball. I’ve seen this shrub put on 2ft of growth height per year. –Lauren

I love the multi-season interest of Viburnum dentatum!  If you’re a birder, this is a great shrub to have in your garden–birds chirp away happily in there enjoying the berries.  (Just remember that, in order for good berry production, you’ll want more than one plant and, if you plant cultivars rather than straight species, you’ll need more than one different cultivar.) Then, come autumn, the bright orange leaves really light up the landscape.  –Amy
