Growing Information
Juncus effusus, or soft rush, is a wetland plant that thrives in soggy and boggy areas, including submersion in water up to four inches. This rush can tolerate medium soils as well. It does best in full to partial sun, and can frequently be found growing alongside lakes, rivers, bogs, ditches, swamps, and generally any other boggy sort of place. It makes a great native rush for rain gardens!
Habit
This rush grows and spreads via rhizome, forming clumps of “smooth, upright… spire-like green stems” that do not contain leaves (Missouri Botanical Garden).
