Carex platyphylla, also called broad leaved sedge or silver leaved sedge, is a native sedge that prefers to grow in rich, moist deciduous forests or cove forests but can tolerate dry shade as it becomes more established. This shade-loving sedge does best in part-sun to full shade conditions and is an excellent choice for wooded gardens. This species is semi-evergreen with a silvery blue hue and typically forms clumps as it grows. Broad-leaved sedge is a host plant for many species of native skipper and wood satyr butterflies.
