Why Native Plant Landscapes?
Native plant landscapes are fundamentally different from conventional landscaping. They’re not about instant curb appeal alone — they’re about creating a living system that works with your site, not against it.
What makes native landscapes different:
- Designed for your specific site
- Native plant gardens are customized to your soil, sun exposure, drainage, and existing ecology. There’s no one-size-fits-all layout.
- Plants chosen for long-term success
- We select regionally native species that thrive naturally, require no chemical input, and improve over time instead of declining.
- Ecological benefits
- Native landscapes support pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects while improving soil health and stormwater absorption.
- Lower maintenance over time
- Native gardens are designed to mature gracefully with less maintenance than traditional ornamental landscapes.
Our Approach
Lauren’s Garden Service is a woman-owned and operated landscape company with a team of three designers and three landscape crews who install gardens using eco-friendly practices. We specialize in native plantings, pollinator gardens, rain gardens, and conservation landscapes that support healthy ecosystems.
Our mission is to create landscapes that positively impact the environment while exceeding our clients’ expectations—from first contact through project completion.
Through thoughtful design, skilled planting, and the sharing of our knowledge in sustainable landscape practices, we create outdoor spaces that reflect each client’s unique needs and our strong work ethic.
Why Our Minimum Project Size Is $4000
A successful native plant landscape requires thoughtful planning, quality materials, and skilled installation.
We usually accept projects with a minimum of $4K budget (for Ellicott City, Howard County and surrounding areas) and $6K minimum for areas further out from us like Silver Spring, Bethesda, Frederick, etc.
Our minimum reflects what it takes to do the job well
- Professional design time
- Site analysis, plant selection, layout, and spacing are critical — and they take expertise and care.
- High-quality native plant material
- We source our native plants from local growers that use ecological practices.
- Proper site preparation
- Soil improvement, grading, sheet mulching, or turf removal are often required for long-term success.
- Experienced installation
- Native landscapes rely on correct placement and spacing so plants can establish, spread, and coexist naturally.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Our services are a great fit if you:
- Want an intentionally designed native garden or landscape
- Are interested in long-term ecological value, not just quick visual impact
- Are ready to invest in a professionally installed ecological landscape
