Contemporary Home Landscape Refreshing in Columbia

These Columbia clients were looking to refresh their front landscape, while keeping a few of their favorite established shrubs and perennials.  Their unique, contemporary home sits at an angle to the incoming street, so they were also looking for a design that would create visual interest from multiple vantage points.   A rosy palette with perennials placed in small clusters, rather than large drifts, creates a woodland feel anchored by evergreen shrubs.

We began by removing overgrown foundation shrubs, replacing them with native and non-native selections whose mature size would be more appropriate for the space.  The next step was to thin and move existing perennials, such as hellebores, for better distribution.  With this structure in place, Amy worked with the crew in person to layout the plants in such a way that new and established plantings could knit together over time.
