Why Install a Native Meadow?

When you drive the suburbs you often see manicured lawn after manicured lawn. In a world where everyone is too busy to a maintain beautiful garden many have opted for the low maintenance lawn to frame our home. Besides being redundant, lawns aren’t the best for the environment. So what’s so bad about a lawn? Grasses have short roots which doesn’t allow the water to penetrate very deep. As a result this causes water run off. Most likely if you have a lawn you also want a beautiful bright green lawn which depending on the weather in your area this means you will need to water regularly and use chemicals to control the weeds.

There are many benefits to a native meadow. Be different and add a low maintenance garden that packs a punch both aesthetically and environmentally. Planting native grasses and blooming perennials not only attract wildlife, but their deeper roots help absorb and filter more water leaving less run off. As your native meadow grows and establishes it becomes low maintenance. Low maintenance means more time for you.

Finally adding a native meadow to your yard is also great way to teach kids about the wildlife around them. With a variety of plants kids will get a chance to see many different species including, butterflies, birds, worms, ladybugs and more. Showing kids how a native meadow creates a refuge for wildlife and attracts pollinators is fun and educational.
